Wednesday the 4th of July is American Independence Day so to commemorate we hope to launch a new craft at AQSC the "Lavery 1". Naturally the proud new Bosun owners will want to test their boat against the best Aquarius can throw at them so we are suggesting a new Bosun challenge the “Knee Jerk Cup” to be held Wednesday evening. The winner’s “Sparkling” prize has been donated by Graham so expect the best. We have three Bosuns available for the use of club members without boats and we are asking other bosun owners to come down and join the fray.
Wind SE to S 3 knots, light cloud cover with sunshine at 24º is currently forecast. The barbeque will be available for members to use and Patrol Boat cover should be available from 15:30.
Mike Hedra is on bar duty; Jean and Mike will be at the Club 16:30 ish so pack a picnic basket and come to down to celebrate.
As 1st July is the first Sunday in the month there is a Newcomers event at 13:30. Occasionally dinghies capsize, this is nothing to be concerned about but it is a big help if you have experience capsize recovery. Nigel Knowles will be demonstrating capsize recovery and if you haven’t experienced it you are recommended to join him. A 30° temperature is forecast. Don’t forget to bring spare clothes.
Wensday 27 June there is a Mid Summer Cruise to The Weir Hotel for a pub supper. The plan is to sail or motor up through Sunbury Lock for a meal, returning around dusk to AQSC for a night cap. Members can travel by any means including canoes, row boats, dinghies, power boats or cars; boats leave at 18:00. Naturally the most fun is the mix of craft on the river and both our patrol boats, Aquarius and Tern, will be going. To book a place in them use the form in the bar or contact Richard Cannon (01932 786636). Note: Anyone planning to come by road should be aware that the Weir Hotel stops taking food orders at 9:00pm.
