Aquarius at Richmond Theatre

The first club social event of 2003 was a visit to Richmond Theatres pantomime 'Peter Pan' on 16 January. This was organised by our new Social Secretary Diana Carpenter.

Peter Pan needs no explanation, being one of the countries best loved children's stories. It's classic pantomime material and was re-told by an excellent cast led by Robert Powell as Captain Hook and Bonnie Langford as Peter Pan. The production was supplemented with all the usual flying effects and an unexpected opportunity to hurl foam rubber 'rocks' at Hook and his gang.

Richmond, along with the likes of Wimbledon, are grand old Victorian theatres, still able to provide traditional live entertainment. Pantomime is a very English institution, often very difficult to explain to our colonial cousins across the pond. A visit to a live show is perhaps becoming a rarity in our high tech world but it remains a real pleasure. I personally hope that pantomime will be around for years to come!

Many thanks to Diana and Peter for organising a thoroughly enjoyable evening despite the fact that I managed to loose my ticket sometime over Christmas and had to do some fast talking on the night to gain admittance to the theatre !

Mike (Oh, yes it is !) Baker
