On Wednesday 29 December the bar is not scheduled to be open.
On 12 December the Cheats Xmas Lunch was enjoyed by 46 members including 8 youths. Tony and Cassie Hopkins had prepared a super meal; Tony found the new kitchen a big improvement. Various quizzes etc. were intermingled with the courses. Special thanks to Helen and Stewart for all their help first thing, to the youths for serving and helping in the kitchen and to Nigel and Gordon for clearing up.
On Sunday 12 December there will be the annual Cheats Christmas Lunch; details, must book by Wednesday 8 December.
On Saturday 4 December 40 members attended the Annual General Meeting; this was very good considering how much snow there had been, it thawed just in time. We welcome Helen Barnett to the Social Committee; there were no other committee changes. The AGM was followed by the End of Season Party with a good selection of food organised by Diana Carpenter. On Saturday 4 December the AGM, Prize giving and End of Season Party will start at 7:30pm for 8pm. This is our most important meeting of the year where the future administration of the club is discussed. Details.
On Sunday 28 November it was bitterly cold for the working party; fortunately it was fine, and no wind or snow. Twenty three members completed all the outside tasks that had been planned and more. Diana Carpenter and helpers provided a welcome lunch and tea but lunch was delayed due to a fuse in the car park distribution box blowing; Ken Ayers managed to get someone from Thames Water to replace it.
On SUNDAY 28 November there will be a Working Party from 10:30 am onwards. Lunch will be provided. Bring old clothes, gloves etc. Please come along with gardening tools.
On Saturday 21 November 45 members and guests enjoyed a super Annual Dinner organised by Diana Carpenter with help from with help from many members.

The next Management Committee meeting is on Monday 15 November at 8 pm.
While conditions are suitable for sailing Fun racing and afternoon tea will continue to be organised after the published last race date of 7 November.
The Kempton Fireworks on 6 November were visited by 18 members and guests; they were the best we have seen there. Unfortunately on leaving Richard Cannon walked into a 250mm high railing and his face hit the pavement very hard; the St John Ambulance crew sent him to hospital so he missed the food prepared at the clubhouse by Diana Carpenter. Richard can’t believe how minor his injuries are.
On November 6 there will be a visit to Fire Works at Kempton Park, the largest display in Greater London, then soup & victuals at the Club. Tickets in advance from http://www.kemptonfireworks.org.uk/ are £6 or £8 on the night. Alternatively Richard Cannon can also obtain advance tickets from a local shop, ring 01932 786636 by Friday 5 November. Meet and park at Richard's house, 77 Saxonbury Avenue, Lower Sunbury, by 7:00pm for a short stroll to Kempton Park, Map.
On Wednesday 13th October members of the management committee will be meeting with the Metropolitan Police at our next club night at the club house from 7:30pm . We will be explaining the issues we have with security and response to intruders as well as asking them for up to date crime prevention advice and how to get their help. All members are invited. There will be free light refreshments.
On Saturday 9 October there is ‘The Roaring Twenties’, with Cocktails, Outstanding Entertainment and of course a slap up repast. Details and Essential booking form (PDF).
The galley refurbishment is a huge project for Bodgit & Associates with a very tight schedule to have it in use for the ‘Roaring 20s’ on 9 October. More

Next Social Committee meeting is in the club house on Saturday 18 Sep at 11:30 am; a light lunch will be provided. The next Management Committee meeting is on Monday 20 Sep at 8 pm.
AQSC On Saturday 11 September there is an Indian at 7:30pm. There will be an assortment of dishes supplied by an Indian restaurant; cost £6 adults, £3 youths payable on the night. Booking with Richard on 01932 786636 or by Thursday 9th is essential, please quote number of vegetarian.
Future Events for your diaries Jun-
For 30 August a 16 to 20knt N wind was forecast at Bewl; fortunately it was a little less, 10 knts most of the time. It was much more shifty and gusty than usual although the 14 members could cope and had excellent sailing. It was a warm and fine.
On Monday 30 August there is a visit to Bewl Valley Sailing Club for Family sailing and cruising; there should be a race for novices. It will be an excellent opportunity for members to experience a relaxed day sailing on a large expanse of open water. You don’t need to have a boat to bring and it should be a super experience for new members. If you think you may come it is important to ring Richard on 01932 786636 to help plan boats required. At AQSC on the previous day, Sunday 29 August, there will be training for new members and fun sailing. Please support our new members.
Saturday 14 August was very wet but fortunately it was dry for the BYO BBQ and Sunbury Regatta fireworks in the evening; junior member Millie helmed the patrol boat taking 9 members to Sunbury Rivermead Island for an excellent view of the illuminated sail past and the fireworks; it wasn’t as crowded with cruisers as usual. Six members stayed at the club and said they could see the fireworks OK.

Wednesday 28 July Thameside Harmony Chorus, which includes Pat Irving, will sing in the clubhouse from 7:30pm with light refreshments.
On Sat 17 July at 19:30 there will be a General Knowledge Quiz Evening With a Fish & Chips supper; there is a team prize up for grabs.

The Signet Open Meeting at Aquarius on 4 July was very successful. It was hot and fine with a force 3 to 4 shifty and fluky SW wind that gave challenging sailing; there were many changes of position. Keith Hatton and Mike Baker in ST369 won the last 2 races to claim the Hawker Trophy; a Hunter aileron bracket.
On 4Jul10 a Signet Open Meeting will be held as well as normal Sunday racing, Notice of Race. There will be combined Signet and AQSC starts. The normal 15:30 Summer Race 3 will start after first afternoon race finishes; note this will be earlier than the normal 15:30 start. The normal 15:00 Tea and Cakes will be delayed until the last race finishes.
The Hampton SC regatta is on Sat 26 and Sun 27 June; AQSC members are invited. Racing at Hampton SC isn’t suitable for novice helm and on Sunday the patrol boat will be at AQSC for those who would like informal sailing and training. Details.
The cruise on 23 June was excellent; but to the Weir Hotel instead of the Magpie so through the lock. There were 2 dinghies, 2 cruisers, a row boat, the patrol boat and 18 members.
Wednesday 23 June Mid Summer Madness! Twilight Cruise leaving 6.30pm. Take advantage of the long summer evenings and the (near) full moon and join us for a cruise up river to the Magpie at Sunbury.
On arrival at the Magpie we will moor up (you will need fenders) and spend an hour or so there, giving time to buy supper etc. for those who want to.
Boats will leave the Club at 18.30 accompanied by the patrol boats/cruisers. For anyone who doesn’t want to sail, seats will be available on the patrol boats on a first come basis. Alternatively join us at the Magpie from 19.30.
We will commence the return to the Club at around 20.45, and the patrol boats will ensure that all boats are back at the Club by 21.45

On Monday 31 May twenty four members with 9 boats were made very welcome by Bewl Valley Sailing Club. Fortunately there was less wind than forecast and although rather cold the shifty and patchy force 2 to 3 gusting 4 wind was ideal for less experienced members.

On Sunday 30 May the activities day was very successful; the force 3 gusting 5 variable and shifty West wind gave excellent very exciting sailing. There was an excellent turnout of of about 35 members and guest with 16 youths. There were many capsizes with most needing assistance to recover.
On Sunday 30 May we are having an afternoon of activities for the newer, younger and less experienced members. We will be showing how to rig and launch the club boats, and having a few informal fun events on the water. There will be opportunities to try different boats. All are welcome, and youngsters are invited to bring friends; the Visitors Condition form (PDF) Must be signed by their parent. The games will be similar to last year's youth event, so a change of clothing and a towel is a must! Wet suits are a good idea if you have them. Come and join the fun from approximately 1 pm to 4 pm !
On Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 May, 10:30 to 17:00, everybody is invited to the Aquarius Sailing Club Open Weekend to have a look at the club and experience FREE sailing in a dinghy or cruiser. Details poster (PDF file 30kb). Club details.

River conditions. Given the current ambient river water temperature, and following an unprecedented number of capsizes during racing on Sunday 11 April, members are advised, under the clubs Duty of Care, that the wearing of wet/dry suits at this time is highly recommended when sailing.
The Indoor Olympics, scheduled for Saturday 10th April, has regrettably had to be cancelled. As of 9th April we haven't received any indications of interest, so hopefully nobody will be disappointed.

It is important to be in time for the 11:30 start as it won't be delayed for late comers. The first race of the season on 28 May started on time.
Start of AQSC 2010 Sailing Season. The clocks go forward on 28 March which is the first day of the 2010 racing season. Leave time to sort out boat problems after a long lay off and don't be late for the 11:30 start.
On Saturday 20 March there is the Start of Season Party with guest speaker Gordon Tripp giving an illustrated talk on Admiral Robert Fitzroy, Capt HMS Beagle, pioneering meteorologist after whom the shipping area is named. Please arrive in good time and be seated by 8.00pm sharp! Free refreshments etc.

On Sunday 14 February 2010 (1:00pm for 1:30pm) a Ladies 'Valentines' Lunch will be held by AQSC in the clubhouse. Bookings should be made to Tony Hopkins (020 8847 0170) no later than 1st February 2010. Details.
The AQSC Panto on 17 January was a resounding success. Youth members were heavily involved with Edmund and Imogen Morris being the Director and Script Writer.
